When it comes to CBD for pets, you should do your research..
When you’re looking for CBD-infused treats for your pet, you want to make sure the products you purchase are of the same quality that you would purchase for yourself or a loved one. That being said, there are a few extra things you should keep in mind when buying CBD for your dog, cat, or other pet.
Dogs, cats, and all other mammals have endocannabinoid systems!
Just like humans and all other mammals, dogs & cats have endocannabinoid systems (ECS for short). The ECS is a molecular system in the body that is responsible for balance & maintaining homeostasis. The ECS regulates things like appetite, memory, immune system response, and much more! When we ingest CBD or hemp – whether in the form of an oil, edible, or by inhaling – it directly interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
How does CBD react with my pet’s ECS?
Just like in humans, our pets’ endocannabinoid systems have CB1 and CB2 receptors. When our dog or cat eats a CBD treat, the CBD enters the bloodstream after digestion and then interacts directly with CB2 receptors found in the gut. If you were to administer CBD oil for your dog or cat, they’d likely absorb more cannabinoids sublingually in their mouths, where both CB1 and CB2 receptors are found. Different forms of ingestion may come with different efficacies and experiences.
